Information Northern Railway [NR] - II has come up with Deoband-Roorkee New Line Project [27.45 km] with a ticket size of 1050 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is - and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project The alignment of the project traverses through district Deoband in Uttar Pradesh & district Roorkee in Uttarakhand. Muzaffarnagar - Roorkee is connected by a circuitous rail route of 93 km via Saharanpur. The proposed direct line will shorten the distance between these two cities by 42 km and will avoid reversal at Saharanpur. This will save on engine hours, fuel and detention of stock and will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Haridwar/Dehradun. The project was sanctioned in the year 2008-2009 on cost sharing basis and 50percentage cost to be borne by Government of Uttarakhand. The original sanctioned cost of the project was INR 105.52 cr. and the revised anticipated investment is INR 791.39 cr. as of 2020. The total length of the project is 27.45 km. It shall have 27.60 earthwork [Lac Cum], 43 minor bridges, 5 major bridges, 78 RUB/LHS, 2 station building, etc. Benefits- This rail line which will reduce the travelling distance between Dehradun and Delhi by 42 km and the journey time by almost two hours including 1hr of shunting in Saharanpur.
