Description

This project consists of replacing the existing roofs for each provincially-owned buildings listed below. Aubin Arsenault Building: The total flat roof replacement (approx. 6,000 sq.ft) is required as the existing roof has exceeded its life expectancy. Replacing the lower sloped asphalt shingled roof, with a new metal roof increases the life span of the sloped roof. Sullivan Building Roof Repair: The total roof replacement (approx. 12,000 sq.ft) is required as the existing roof has exceeded its life expectancy and will be replaced with a new 2-ply modified roof system. Basin Head Fisheries Museum: The total existing roof (approx. 7,500 sq.ft.) consists of cedar shakes, which are need of replacement. A new metal roof would ensure the safety and longevity of the building and the artifacts it contains. Kensington Post Office: The total roof replacement (approx. 4,000 sq.ft) is required as the existing roof has exceeded its life expectancy and will be replaced with a new 2-ply modified roof system. Customs House: The flat roof replacement (approx. 3,000 sq.ft) is required as the existing roof has exceeded its life expectancy and will be replaced with a flat roof. Replace the mansard asphalt shingled roof with a metal roof to increase the life span of the sloped roof. MacPhail Woods Nature Centre: The existing roof (approx. 3,000 sq.ft.) consists of asphalt shingles, which have exceeded the life expectancy of 20 years. A new metal roof would ensure the safety and longevity of the building and it’s contents. The Province must continue to commit to investing in its buildings to ensure the effective delivery of programs and services to Islanders while increasing environmental efficiency and sustainability of these building. These roof repairs will increase the insulation R-value, leading to decreased energy demand. This project will also contribute to the economic recovery of the province during the current pandemic.
