Desert Sun Power Plant

Arizona Public Service (APS) plans to develop the Desert Sun Power Plant, a state-of-the-art natural gas facility capable of adding up to 2,000 megawatts (MW) to Arizona's energy portfolio. The project will be partially funded by large energy companies and will implement a 'growth pays for growth' model where large energy users like data centers will pay for a phase of the project. Phase 1 is scheduled to begin serving customers by late 2030 and will support all customers by meeting spikes in demand and providing electricity when renewable sources are unavailable. Phase 2 will be fully paid for by high-energy users with no cost to existing customers.
