Description

Description

The aim of DIMAByz is to create a new transnational, interdisciplinary MA programme in Byzantine Studies: A Global Perspective. A consortium of three Universities – University of Cyprus, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, and Università Ca' Foscari Venezia – have joined forces to collaborate in this unique and very topical project. Our aim is to attract outstanding international students to the study of the Byzantine Empire by highlighting its role as an important nexus between East and West. The joint expertise at these three HEIs will engage students with all aspects of Byzantium, its history, literature, and material culture. Students will be taught in all three countries of the consortium and they will develop and practice their employability skills through targeted collaborations with national institutions of heritage management and tourism. Our ambition is to produce graduates with skill sets in critical thinking, problem-solving, and the management and interpretation of complex data, who will be able to navigate the complexities of a globalised world. To do so we are committed to developing joint procedures for the recruitment, application, and admission of students, to offering an attractive and flexible curriculum based on jointly established methodologies, and to working towards the creation of a joint degree accredited by all relevant national organisations. A detailed management schedule will ensure that tasks are shared equitably and results monitored closely so that by the end of the funding period we can apply for European funding for our MA programme.
