The DataJourn Project seeks to create a joint master's program in Data Journalism, providing future journalists with the technical and analytical skills to tell data-driven stories. The four-semester program combines AI tools, data management, and journalism principles to fill educational gaps and foster impactful digital narratives. The program is organized as follows: 1) 1st Sem. (UET – European University of Tirana): Focuses on research methodologies and data science basics, equipping students to analyze and manage complex datasets. 2) 2nd Sem. (UNIROMA2): Explores advanced data analysis, AI applications in journalism, and data visualization. 3) 3rd Sem. (AUTH-Aristotelio Panepistimio Thessalonikis): Covers geospatial data analysis, data-driven communication, and ethical issues in journalism, with hands-on practice using global datasets. 4) 4th Sem: Students select electives and complete a thesis or capstone project at a participating university. The core curriculum covers AI tools for data communication, including machine learning and NLP for data analysis and visualization. It includes data scraping, acquisition, advanced statistical analysis, and creating compelling visualizations. Students also learn geographical data management, using GIS and satellite imagery. The program promotes interactive storytelling with engaging graphics and real-time visualizations. Additionally, it addresses the gap between traditional journalism and modern data-driven media, fostering ethical, data-informed narrative creation. The DataJourn Project aims to prepare a new generation of journalists who are adept at analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data effectively. By combining technical expertise with storytelling skills, the program empowers journalists to create informed, ethical, and impactful narratives that resonate in today’s digital age.
