Description
Description | The project will carry out the Technical and Economic Feasibility (PFTE) to upgrade the Bolzano Railway Area, located in the Bolzano urban node, belonging to the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor. It will design the multimodal hub station in Bolzano. The project is included in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of the municipality of Bolzano and it is part of the global project named “Integrated Station Plan” of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). The project is divided into two work packages: • Work Package 1: Technical and Economic Feasibility Project (PFTE) of the Bolzano Railway Area • Work Package 2: Project Management, Coordination and Dissemination The global project aims to transform the Bolzano Railway Area into a highly integrated multimodal passenger hub, enhancing intermodality by strengthening connections between long-distance transport systems and local urban networks. It will remove the existing infrastructure bottlenecks and will mitigate traffic pressure, especially due to the Brenner Corridor linking Italy to Austria. In the long term, the global project will ensure the efficient use of diverse transport modes in Bolzano, reducing infrastructure fragmentation, supporting the transition to sustainable mobility solutions, and improving accessibility, with targeted measures to ensure equitable mobility conditions for all users, including persons with reduced mobility in particular. In addition, the Bolzano multimodal passengers hub, will play a key role once the Brenner Base Tunnel is completed. Moreover, the project will permit reconnecting urban areas through a comprehensive redevelopment of the station area, which will be transformed into a central and accessible hub contributing to urban regeneration, reinforcing Bolzano’s strategic role within the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor. |
