Description | The Stad sea is the most exposed and most dangerous stretch along the Norwegian coast. It has very problematic wave conditions and it is the area with by far the most and strongest winds. The combination of wind, current and waves around this coastline makes the area particularly demanding along the Norwegian coast. The objective of the project is to improve navigability and safety of maritime transport around Stad. The Stad Ship Tunnel will be 1.7 km long, 37 meters high, have a width of 36 meters. It will be able to give vessels the size of Hurtigruta a safer voyage along the weather-beaten Stad Sea. Snøhetta has been responsible for designing the entrances of the tunnel. |
