The Thirumoorthi Reservoir Project Committee of Parambikulam Aliyar Irrigation Project (PAP) has urged the Tamil Nadu state government to allocate Rs 10 crore annually for desilting canals to ensure water reaches the tail-end areas. The project irrigates 4.25 lakh acres in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts. The committee highlighted that funds were allocated between 2016-2021 but not released between 2021-2025, causing silted canals and water delivery issues. After a representation last year, the previous government agreed to allocate Rs 10 crore annually, and the amount was released for the previous year, enabling desilting work. The committee has requested the same allocation for the current year to continue the work.
