Detailed Design and Construction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lanes in the Town of Ajax, Town of Whitby and City of Oshawa

• The project consists of the detailed design and construction of new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes, and new active transportation connections in the Town of Ajax, Town of Whitby and City of Oshawa. • The project scope includes the detailed design and construction of 3.5 km of dedicated BRT lanes, 5.5 km of transit priority measures through pinch-point locations of Pickering Village, Downtown Whitby and Downtown Oshawa, 0.5 km of on-road buffered bike lanes, and 2.8 km of dedicated off-road one-way bike lanes. Pinch-points are identified areas along the Pulse 900 (BRT) route corridor where constraints do not allow for widening of the roadway for dedicated transit lanes. Alternatives currently being evaluated include constructing queue jumps at intersections, taking existing traffic lanes for dedicated transit lanes and widening for only one additional lane. • The project will result in improved capacity, quality and safety, and improved access to the public transit system in Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa, Ontario.
