This project will include the detailed water system assessment and infrastructure planning for the community, as needed to plan for the next 20 years. Our community is currently having extreme difficulty maintaining the required chlorine residual within our water system and adequate fire flows. We also struggle in providing our community with water supply security in the event of a watermain break

Description
Description | This project will include the detailed water system assessment and infrastructure planning for the community, as needed to plan for the next 20 years. Our community is currently having extreme difficulty maintaining the required chlorine residual within our water system and adequate fire flows. We also struggle in providing our community with water supply security in the event of a watermain break due to numerous dead-ended watermains. The dead-ended watermains within out community do not promote "looping" or chlorine mixing for distributing required to maintain a satisfactory chlorine residual. It has therefore been difficult in many areas of our community to ensure safe drinking water in accordance with Ontario and Federal Regulations which results in a Health and Safety issue for our community members. Additionally, identifying the feasibility and costs of looping the water distribution system is essential in maintaining acceptable fire flows and to provide a more consistent pressure throughout the system. Maintaining an acceptable chlorine residual for safe potable drinking water is a critical health and safety requirement and it is also important for fire flow by looping the watermain. This is essential in providing our community with an effective disaster mitigation plan in the event of a fire emergency. Finally, identifying required upgrades to the watermain system is also important for the drinking water security of our community. In the current distribution system, if any watermain breaks occur in the community, dead ended areas in the community do not have access to safe drinking water. This assessment will help identify the next steps towards creating a safe drinking water system in accordance with Ontario and Federal Regulations which will eliminate the health and safety issue for the community members, reducing the potential for members to visit the provinces health care system. |
