Developement of Unified Bay-watching System in the Baltic Sea Region

The Blue Flag concept is the highest standard for beaches and marines and therefore has been set as a quality aim for many resorts. At the moment this standard has been awarded to four beaches in Latvia and three in Lithuania, but still a better focus on the safety and first aid on the beaches is needed. The project objective is to promote the safety level for the beach visitors in the Baltic sea coastline pursuant to the Blue Flag criteria. The main results of the project are the increased safety level on the beaches and improved quality of saving services achieved by preparation of appropriate number of professional and qualified lifeguards, development of common Baltic Sea coastline saving system consisting of partners located along the sea coast - Saulkrasti, Jurmala, Liepaja (LV) and Klaipėda, Palanga, Neringa (LT), establishment of mutual cooperation as well as exchange of experience between lifeguard teams. The project activities therefore include establishment of Lifeguard Training Centre in Jurmala, development of curricula and training materials for lifeguards, defining common standards for lifeguards, improvement of quality of infrastructure and saving equipment, raising public awareness on safety on the beaches during informative events.
