Acronym: DIADEMS This document introduces the Developing Improved Annual Demography and Migration Statistics in Ireland (DIADEMS) project from the Central Statistics Office, Ireland. DIADEMS has been developed in response to the European Commission Call: SMP-ESS-2023-POP-MIGR-IBA — Improvement and re-development of demography, migration and population and housing census statistics. DIADEMS will produce product deliverables in relation to the following activities under (SMP-ESS-2023-POP-MIGR-IBA) • Activity 2: Transmission and improvement of voluntary annual georeferenced data; • Activity 3: Improvement of annual demography and international migration statistics; • Activity 4: Setting up and transmission of infra-annual demographic and international migration statistics; The pending European Statistics on Population (ESOP) regulation is likely to result in significant new population and demography statistics requirements for the Irish Central Statistics Office (CSO) and the broader Irish Statistical System (ISS). This will likely include annual and multi-annual individual and household level statistics on employment, educational attainment level, current activity status, industry, sex, age, place of birth and country of citizenship on a multi-annual basis at sub-regional levels of geography (i.e. Local Electoral Areas). In addition, far high frequency and granularity requirements will be sought in relation to Vital Statistics and migration. DIADEMS involves the development of cutting-edge statistical and administrative data-derived statistical methodologies; the enhanced administrative data environment in Ireland enabled by the National Data Infrastructure (NDI); and enhanced integration of operations of the three separate production areas (Vital Statistics, Demography and Irish Population Estimates from Administrative Datasets (IPEADS)) in CSO’s Life Events and Demography (LED) Division to meet the upcoming demands of ESOP.
