Description

Description

Sargasso is a plastic recycling company that focuses on Ocean Bound Plastic based in Malindi, Kenya. Ocean Bound Plastic is certified to have been sourced from the beaches and rivers of the developing world, which would have ended up in the ocean without our intervention We work in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Beach Management Unit under the Fisheries Department, the County Government, the Kenya Wildlife Services and Tourism Industry, all of whom are beneficiaries of our work. Since inception, Sargasso has managed to collect 15tonnes of plastic waste from the shores of Malindi. We have developed a method of harvesting our plastic, using the local community, in particular the fishermen and recovering addicts, to whom we pay favorable rates per kilo. We then cold wash it and grind it into flakes. The fact that we are certified Ocean Bound Plastic allows us to sell at a premium, and access markets unavailable to regular recyclers. While this market is not very prevalent in Kenya, it is a significant growth sector across the western world. We are one of very few OBP suppliers operating on the African continent. In order to expedite the development of our business, we require finances to purchase machinery to facilitate the production of our product. We are seeking a round off KES 20,000,000 and are prepared to offer a seat on the Board of Directors to investors
