Description
Description | BREULAW is a project presented by two EU-wide professional organisations representing lawyers through their member Bars, the European Lawyers Foundation (ELF) and the Council of Bars of Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), which are both organisations with substantial experience in the training of lawyers, both through conducting training events (ELF) and through developing policy in this field at EU level (CCBE). The project proposes an innovative approach with EU added value by combining 2 activities which address lawyer’s training needs as recognised by the European Commission: (a) through the development of an EU-wide lawyer’s training curriculum in EU law; and (b) through the organisation of study visits for lawyers to EU institutions in Brussels. In order to achieve its results, BREULAW is structured around 4 Work Packages (WPs) which are complementary, so that efficiency of resources and dissemination of project activities are maximised. Beyond the two horizontal WPs (project management and communication), there will be one WP dedicated to each of the training components of the project. The WP on the lawyer’s training curriculum will be dedicated to analysing existing material in the field before drafting a curriculum as a model framework of competences for lawyers in important areas of EU law. As the curriculum targets all Member States, the project team will be assisted by a small group of experts appointed by national Bars who will be supported also by the CCBE’s Training Committee and validated by the CCBE’s Standing Committee (where all EU Bars are represented) to ensure its full applicability across all Member States. The WP on the study visits will focus on organising the visits for lawyers from all Member States (excluding Demark which is not part of the Justice Programme), so that lawyers become more familiar with the EU, its institutions and its legal instruments, while also enabling networking among the participating lawyers. |
