Development of Cultural Activities of local Communities and NGOs'

The river Vadakstis divides Akmenė (LT) and Dobele (LV) districts between two states. Since the old times on both sides of the river there lived lots of people speaking Lithuanian and Latvian languages and also a number of mixed families were created, however the communication across the borders decreased due to the border passing formalities. The project fosters members of local communities in Lithuanian-Latvian border zone to communicate actively through cultural activities, to find the peculiarities and distinctions of neighbouring culture. The project benefits local inhabitants and NGOs that establish close personal contacts and learn more about each others lifestyle, cultural and religious traditions by participating in joint training seminars, festivals, meetings and summer camps for village children and youth. The cultural cooperation is expected to continue based on the prepared strategic plan for development of cultural activities for 2006- 2009, collected data and information on neighbouring culture and publication of the informative booklet.
