Development of experimental quantum communication infrastructure in Latvia
Sector: Residential • Location: Latvia
Source: EU Funding & Tenders Portal
The objective of the project is to create a national (Latvian) level experimental and advanced quantum system and network, including integration in existing communication networks and testing of quantum technology operations, as well as using the created network for development and testing of specific national QCI initiative-related use cases (in defence, healthcare, finance, 5G, etc.). 4 partners

Description
Description | The objective of the project is to create a national (Latvian) level experimental and advanced quantum system and network, including integration in existing communication networks and testing of quantum technology operations, as well as using the created network for development and testing of specific national QCI initiative-related use cases (in defence, healthcare, finance, 5G, etc.). 4 partners will be involved in the project. The leading partner of the Project will be Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LVRTC), other partners will include the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia; TET LLC, and the Electronic Communications Office of Latvia (ECO). As a result of project execution, there will be created unitary national level experimental network that will be integrated in the Project partner’s existing communication networks and infrastructure (fibre-optic trunks, data centres, Internet exchanges and computing facilities, wireless communication networks). It will be used further as an experimental environment for use case testing. This experimental quantum network will consist of 2 parts, the first of which will be available for use of publicly available and commercial service areas testing (Finance, Health and Communication sectors), while the second will be used for the development of research and integration solutions for defence sector needs and processing of information with limited access. As part of the Project, extensive user trainings in quantum communication technologies are planned for the following target groups: designers and maintainers of ICT systems and communication networks; cybersecurity specialists; use case representatives (in defence, healthcare, finance, and digital infrastructure sectors) along with events for experience sharing. Total project costs: 8.06 Million EUR, of which 4.03 Million EUR is the planned EU support. Project implementation duration is 36 months. |
