Description
Description | This FC grant will finance the construction and renovation of small hydropower plants, the installation of solar water pumps, the purchase of agricultural inputs, planting and reforestation, the improvement of operating and maintenance systems, training and quality assurance, remote monitoring and impact assessments. The development policy objective of the measure is to enable or improve the basic supply of climate-friendly energy to the population in remote areas of Pakistan through the decentralized use of renewable energy. The share of petroleum-based fuels and firewood from primary forests in energy generation and the associated greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced; in addition, the pressure on ecosystems through the commercial use of electricity and a biodiversity component will be reduced. The targeted outputs are 1. Renewable energy projects have been implemented. 2. The Water and Power Department (WPD)'s own income from electricity consumption in Hunza and Nagar has increased. 3. Energy efficiency in the target communities has improved. 4. Land use rights for the irrigation areas were distributed to user groups, especially women's groups, on the basis of a fair and transparent process. 5. Afforestation areas were successfully established in accordance with participatory land use plans and technical specifications. The target group is around 73,000 people, i.e. a large part of the population of the neighbouring rural districts of Hunza and Nagar. The recipient of the funds is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, represented by the Ministry of Finance. The project implementing body for component 1 (hydropower) is the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, represented by WPD. Component 2 (biodiversity) is being implemented by the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP). The project draws on the experience of Phase I (BMZ No. 2009 66 135). |
