Description

Description

As part of the project to expand and use hydropower and renewable energies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, remote communities in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will be supplied with electricity in a decentralized manner using hydropower and solar energy. The aim of the project is to make a positive contribution to economic development, poverty reduction, and resource conservation. To this end, the basic supply of electricity to the population will be made possible and the productive use of electricity to generate income will be promoted. In addition to the construction of small hydropower plants to generate electricity, solar systems for village lighting will also be financed. Around 15,000 people will benefit directly from the measures in the first phase. The project sponsor is the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF). The project is designed as an open program. The total costs therefore depend on the amount of funds available. A grant of 10 million euros was promised for the original project in 2009. In July 2019, the project was increased by EUR 1 million with DKTI funds, with PPAF being the project sponsor and additional recipient of the funds in order to increase the number of users and accompany the start of the operation and maintenance phase.
