Description
Description | Project “Development of Kaunas International Airport infrastructure, ensuring its adaptability to military mobility needs, and increasing its dual-use capabilities” (hereinafter referred to as Project, DOKUN) will be implemented by Akcinė Bendrovė Lietuvos oro uostai/Joint-stock company “Lithuanian Airports” (hereinafter referred to as LTOU). LTOU as a Lithuanian joint-stack company oversees and manages the airports in Lithuania. The Project aims to address critical infrastructure needs at Kaunas Airport (KUN) by extending the airport's apron adapting it to category 1 E and 1 D aircraft and improving the roads that lead to apron near the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hangars. This integrated project seeks to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and connectivity, supporting the airport's growth and the broader transportation network. Moreover, this infrastructure corresponds to dual-use criteria as it will be able to be used for military purposes to park category 1 E and 1 D aircrafts and ensure access to Northern apron by the roads near the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hangars. The expansion of the apron will be in line with the dual use specifications outlined in the Implementing Regulation 2021/1328 (No. 10-13). The objective of the project is to expand transportation and logistics capacities at Kaunas Airport, enhance the existing infrastructure for military and civilian purposes, enabling Lithuania, as the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (hereinafter referred to as NATO) ally, simultaneously strengthening national defence, promoting economic development, and effectively responding to various challenges, ensuring a more resilient and versatile national security posture. |
