Development of State Statistical System Project

The importance of macroeconomic management issues has been addressed within the strategic framework, whereby a number of such issues, together with public sector reforms will be enhanced through the State Statistical System (STASYS) Project. The development objectives of the project are to restructure the state statistical system for Goskomstat, and strengthen other data collection agencies. The main components include: 1) the institutional strengthening of Goskomstat, which will improve its organization and management, as well as its strategy and perspective planning. Additionally, fostering knowledge of standards and methodology, will be emphasized, as will the strengthening of statistical infrastructure, and the reorganization of data collection, processing, and dissemination; 2) the institutional strengthening and technical assistance to data collection agencies, which will improve financial statistics, with the introduction of a compilation system. Furthermore, improvements in the balance of payments' coverage and quality will be enhanced, through utilization methods and information for economic monitoring and forecasting, hence improving the processing of vital statistics; and, 3) a project management, to establish a Directorate, supporting the development of STASYS for program management.
