The Dewey Burdock project is a uranium mining proposal located near Edgemont along the southwestern edge of the Black Hills in South Dakota. The project involves in situ mining, which uses wells to inject a water-based solution underground to dissolve uranium and pump it to the surface. The project has been in planning for nearly two decades and requires numerous federal, state, and local permits. It has been selected for the FAST-41 federal permitting process to expedite coordination and accountability among permitting agencies, potentially reducing review time by 18 months.
