Description | In May 2006, the government of Bangladesh divested 25% of the state owned Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) through an initial public offering (IPO). DESCO was incorporated in 1996 as a state-owned company engaged in the distribution of electricity to industrial and residential customers in a franchise area comprising Mirmur in Greater Dhaka. DESCO was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in May 2006. The total value of the IPO was US$4.6 million (Tk 318 million), corresponding to a face value of US$1.45 (Tk 100) per share. Ownership of the remaining 75% of the company’s equity was retained by the Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (DESA), an agency of the government of Bangladesh. |
