Description
Description | The Dhaka Elevated Expressway PPP Project is a major infrastructure project in Dhaka, Bangladesh, aimed at improving traffic flow by constructing an elevated expressway. The project has faced significant delays, mismanagement, and environmental concerns, including destruction of Panthakunja Park and filling parts of the Hatirjheel reservoir. The project was approved in July 2011 with a budget of Tk 89.40 billion and was scheduled for completion by December 2014 but remains unfinished more than a decade later. The project involves a foreign company and the Bangladesh government, with a Viability Gap Financing contribution from the government. A linked project titled 'Support to Dhaka Elevated Expressway PPP Project' covers additional costs such as land acquisition and rehabilitation, increasing the total estimated expenditure to Tk 138.58 billion. The project has been criticized for violating environmental laws, court directives, and constitutional principles, and for having discriminatory contract terms favoring the foreign investor. |
