Dharavi Slum Redevelopment Project

The redevelopment of Dharavi, a vast slum sprawl in the heart of Mumbai, will be carried out through a special purpose vehicle set up through a joint venture between the Adani Group and Maharashtra government. The master plan envisages the construction of 58,532 residential units and 13,468 commercial and industrial units on 116.6 acres of the existing Dharavi area for the rehabilitation of eligible residents. The project also includes utilisation of around 541 acres of land across the city for rental housing for ineligible residents and earmarks 118.4 acres inside Dharavi for commercial development. The project has sought various exemptions and regulatory relaxations from the Maharashtra government to facilitate redevelopment, including GST waiver, staircase and open space rules waiver, sub-leasing rights, and use of fungible FSI.
