Description
Description | DHruva is a new digital address system developed by the Department of Posts in India that allows deliveries using only a recipient's name and a unique digital ID. The system replaces traditional postal addresses with short digital IDs similar to email addresses or UPI handles, embedding location and address details to improve delivery accuracy and reduce confusion caused by incomplete addresses. The system uses DigiPIN, a Digital Postal Index Number, which identifies exact locations using small grid squares and provides unique alphanumeric codes for precise GPS-based location identification. The pilot project was conducted across five states with around 30 users and involved deliveries through speed post services. A nationwide rollout is expected within about one-and-a-half years after more rounds of testing. |
