Description | The Diamer Basha Dam Project is an under-construction dam across River Indus, 40-Km downstream of Chilas town. It is the highest RCC dam in the world with a height of 272 meters, having a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF to irrigate 1.23 million acres of land. The project includes a power generation capacity of 4,500 MW, expected to provide 18 billion units of green, clean, and affordable electricity annually to the national grid. Construction activities are ongoing on 13 work fronts including RCC trials, excavation works, diversion tunnel, dam pit, abutments, coffer dams, flushing tunnel, RCC batching plant, and conveyor belt tunnel. RCC works on the main dam are set to commence in early 2026 after completion of RCC trials and excavation works by the end of 2025. |
