Description
Description | The EU DiCRI project, promoted by the University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO) - Department of Law and Political, Economic and Social Sciences (DiGSPES), with participation of the Department of Science and Technological Innovation (DISIT), aims to raise awareness about the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence by law enforcement authorities in the field of criminal investigations and promote the knowledge of the EU law regulating the subject. The intensive use of digital forensic tools for criminal investigation and the increasing momentum gained by AI solutions also in criminal proceedings can generate many opportunities, in terms of technological innovation and economic-social development, but also entail risks for fundamental rights, along with the rule of law and democracy. In this context, EU DiCRI seeks to stimulate debates on EU legal framework with the active participation of practitioners, academic and the civil society, with different levels of involvement and synergy. The purpose is to enact teaching activities, together with deliverables and events, about the following relevant themes: - a complete reconstruction of the state of the art, both from a technical-scientific and a legal point of view, of the multiple profiles of interaction between the ongoing digital revolution and criminal procedure, in the light of the EU law; - recent practical approaches in the field of information technology, cyber security, forensic biometrics and AI, from the standpoint of the protection of fundamental safeguards for the suspect/defendant; - fundamental rights involved in the light of their traditional meaning and of their current content. EU DiCRI offers the opportunity of enhancing a wide network of academic and civil actors involving: University of Sassari, University of Bologna, Université de Luxembourg, Universidad de Sevilla, Netherlands Forensic Institute and University of Twente, KU Leuven. |
