Description
Description | The EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life (2021-2030) states clearly: “Despite the long-standing presence of Jews in Europe, people have scant knowledge of Jewish life and Judaism.” The Digital Education about Jews and Antisemitism (DEJA) project aims to meet this challenge at scale for a critical target audience: secondary school students in 5 EU Member States. The online program will have four content modules: (1) Jews & Judaism, (2) the history and composition of the local Jewish community, (3) antisemitism, and (4) how to be an ally against antisemitism. The course will include interactive lessons, real-world scenarios to prime students for long-term behavioral change using problem-solving and self-reflection activities, and detailed score reports to help teachers maximize their impact across all students. DEJA will adapt for use in Europe a proven American online education tool of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to teach these topics to students. Below in this proposal, ADL’s efficacy data will be presented. DEJA program participants are: the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE), the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI), The Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom,” and The Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI) of The Netherlands, and the Official Council of Swedish Jewish Communities (Sweden) The participants hope the DEJA project will provide a successful model for the rest of the EU and believe that process can be replicated across Europe. The project duration for this proposal is 24 months. We expect that the project will be proven successful after 18 months, and additional outside funding will then be sought for the continuation of the project after the two-year period of this proposal. |
