Digital Euro Introduction

planned

The European Central Bank (ECB) plans to introduce the digital euro, a digital version of cash accessible via phone or physical card, aimed at strengthening European payment independence. The digital euro will be free for basic services, accepted alongside cash in shops, and allow direct transfers between individuals. It supports offline payments and financial inclusion, with a holding limit yet to be determined. The project aims to provide a European alternative to non-European payment systems and maintain privacy better than current card payments.
