Description
Description | The European Central Bank (ECB) is advancing the Digital Euro project by launching a pilot to test the payment system flow. The pilot aims to validate the system's core functions including technical performance, operational processes, and user experience in a controlled environment. It involves licensed payment service providers (PSPs), central bank staff, and selected merchants using a beta digital euro for testing only. The project also includes the selection of providers to build the digital euro platform and the development of a draft rulebook, with a potential launch in 2029 contingent on EU legislation adoption. |
