Digital solutions to achieve universal health coverage

The Tanzanian government plans to introduce compulsory health insurance for the entire population (approx. 56 million people). The systems and processes of the national health insurer NHIF are currently geared towards managing around 3.6 million members. In order to cope with such an increase in the insured base, the IT structure must be expanded and the corresponding organizational processes harmonized. This is particularly important given the challenge that the target group will expand from civil servants and employees in the private sector to include poor population groups in rural areas. The project aims to develop context-specific digital solutions for the insurer's core business processes that will be used to efficiently manage a growing and expanded insured base. The specific digital solutions, e.g. for service billing, member registration, master data management or customer communication, are being developed with the involvement of the provider's IT staff and future users.
