The project, DigiWave Phase 2, is the second phase of the Global Project DigiWave which includes a collection of digitalisation projects for inland waterways in Belgium which optimize the transport of goods by water, considering also the interaction with other transport modes. DigiWave Phase 1 is covered by the CEF project 21-BE-TG-DIGIWAVE Phase 1. The project DigiWave Phase 2 aims to optimize traffic and transport management in order to maximally integrate automated shipping in the synchromodal transport chain through intensive cooperation and agreements with stakeholders worldwide by the development of a resilient and reliable infostructure. The infostructure is a virtual component which includes all non-physical building blocks to be able to convert data into information that allows for further automation of transport across different transport modes. Synchromodality requires an adapted infrastructure and infostructure, which must be sufficiently reliable, stable and available to all parties involved in transport. DigiWave Phase 2 is composed of five Work Packages: 1. Project Management, 2. Smart Logistics, 3. Smart Administration, 4. Smart Shipping, 5. Infostructure. The project will impact the core network of inland waterways in Flanders and Brussels in Belgium, and in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, part of the North Sea – Baltic and North Sea – Mediterranean corridors. Due to the digital service nature of DigiWave, the services can be easily applied to smaller inland waterways at no cost. The result of implementation of DigiWave Phase 2 is more transparency in inland navigation, reduction of administrative barriers, contributing to the attractiveness and competitiveness of the inland waterway transport sector.
