Description | A 50-50 joint venture of Emel SA of Chile, through Electricidad de Central America SA de CV and PP&L Global Inc. bid just over $180-million to acquire Distribuidora de Electricidad del Sur (DelSur), which serves about 250,000 customers in the south central part of the country and part of the capital city. The financial closure was reached on Feb. 17, 1998. Annual sales are about 600 GWh. Emel will serve as the operator. In 2000, Emel sold its shares in DELSUR to PP&L Global, which controls Emel, for US$ 94.2 million. In May 2007, US PPL Corporation completed the sale of its 86.4% controlling interest in El Salvadoran Distribuidora de Electricidad Del Sur (DelSur), to US Ashmore Energy International (AEI) for 180 million dollars through a stock purchase agreement. |
