Description

Description

This project involves shifting electricity generation to a decentralized model by creating a system of microgrids and hybrid systems combining solar, storage, generation, and dispatchable backup power with the capability to island. The Department of Defense aims to contract private providers to guarantee resilient power inside military base fencelines, reducing reliance on the commercial grid. The US Army plans to build ten to twelve small modular reactors on Army bases in the next ten years to provide clean, continuous power and enhance energy resilience. Additionally, co-locating data centers near military bases powered by on-base generation resources is proposed to meet growing energy demands and reduce strain on the public grid.
