Description
Description | Neighborhood Program funds are being used by the SFMTA to implement quick and effective near-term traffic calming measures at locations in District 11 at the request of District 11 Supervisor and Transportation Authority Board Member Ahsha Safai. Outreach from the Excelsior Neighborhood Traffic Calming Project and Excelsior Neighborhood Strategy helped determine what improvements to make. Specific locations and improvement types were determined in collaboration with the District 11 Supervisor's Office and based on technical factors, such as feasibility, documented safety issues, and proximity to community assets like schools and parks. This project has been developed in two rounds: The first round designed and constructed close to 60 quick and effective near-term traffic calming devices throughout the district, including speed humps, speed tables, speed cushions, and raised crosswalks. This round also included other crosswalk upgrades, such as painted safety zones, continental crosswalks, and traffic signs. Funds for this round were allocated in March 2018 and the work was completed in summer 2022. The second round planned and designed proactive traffic calming measures in various locations in District 11, with a focus on the Oceanview and Ingleside neighborhoods. This round will construct 36 measures, including speed humps, speed cushions, speed tables, and raised crosswalks. Funds for the second round were allocated in October 2019. |
