Description
Description | In the second phase of the District Health Improvement Programme (DHIP II), a regional hospital (Ligula Regional Hospital) and three district hospitals (Masai, Newala and Tandahimba) were rehabilitated and improved on the basis of hospital development plans using FC funds. The target group of the project were the users of the supported health facilities in the programme region, who mainly consist of poor population groups. The project, which was designed as an open programme, followed on from the first phase of the DHIP, in which, among other things, 23 basic health stations in the Mtwara region were rehabilitated and equipped and a maintenance workshop was set up between 1997 and 2003. The total cost of the project was around EUR 4.3 million, of which EUR 2.1 million was financed from FC funds and EUR 2.2 million from DED funds in the form of personnel costs. An increase of a further EUR 0.5 million was agreed during the government negotiations in 2012 in order to eliminate the most important structural defects identified during the final inspection at two district hospitals (Newala, Masasi). The increase proposal was approved by the BMZ. The project was designed as a cooperation project with the DED and integrated into the Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH) as part of the program development in Tanzania. The DED provided the necessary personnel support to the executing agency in the areas of program management, district health management, hospital administration, construction and rehabilitation measures, maintenance and the transfer of clinical knowledge. |
