In October 2015, Consorcio FAG, a partnership of the Spanish company Acciona and the Brazilian companies Goetze Lobato Engenharia and FB Participacoes (Grupo JBS), was awarded the 26-year contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the sewerage services of Divinopolis, State of Minas Gerais. The contract was awarded by the state-owned company Copasa, which holds the rights to provide water and sewerage services to the municipality. The municipality's population was estimated at 228.6 thousand. The project company committed to reach 75% of the city's population with sewerage treatment services by 2017 and 95% with sewerage collection by 2022. The bidding criteria was the lowest funding required by Copasa. Besides Consorcio FAB, only another bidder took part in the contest. The sponsors created the company Concessionaria Divinopolis Saneamento S.A. to lead the project. The total investment was estimated at US$ 125.9 million (BRL 411.2 million) over the concession period. Copasa committed to fund 50% of the investment expenditures.
