Dix Park Building Demolition and Redevelopment

Raleigh plans to demolish 20 buildings totaling 545,000 square feet at Dorothea Dix Park starting in early 2026 to reduce maintenance costs and expand green space. The project includes demolishing larger buildings on the west campus and stabilizing and reusing another 20 buildings totaling 500,000 square feet. Major redevelopment projects over the next five years include restoring Rocky Branch Creek, constructing new utilities, new trails, community gardens, and public art with capital costs estimated between $90 million and $120 million.
