Description | In July 2010, the Djerba desalination plant project reached financial closure under a 20-year BOT agreement. The agreement involved an investment comitment of US$95 million. The project was awarded to Befesa-Princesse Groupe partnership, a consortium between Befesa (subsidiary of Abengoa (Spain)) and Princesse Groupe (Tunisia) following a competitive bidding process. Financial bids were opened in April 2010: Inima/aqualia (TND1.1300/m³ /$0.78/m³); Acciona (TND1.1347/m³ / $0.79/m³); Befesa (TND1.17/m³ / $0.81/m³). Befesa is expected to undertake construction of the plant and Befesa-Princesse Groupe partnership will oversee its operation and maintenance. The total income from the sale of water during the 20 years of the concession is estimated to exceed 200 million euros, since the annual income is calculated to amount to more than 11 million euros. The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 50,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day. |
