Description

Description

This intervention concerns the Water Harvesting Project for Water Supply and Agriculture in Rural Districts. It is designed to test innovative techniques for collecting run-off water that can be used for drinking, irrigation and livestock in the two rural districts of Digri and Obock. The project is expected to improve access to multiple-use water for nomadic rural populations in the project area. It will also provide better knowledge of hydrogeological conditions in the project area and increased investment through the deployment of new technologies in water harvesting at national level. The project is fully in line with the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) adopted in Djibouti in July 2004 and the priorities of the AWF's 2005-2009 operational programme. It will thus contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (2015) and the African Water Vision for 2025, by supporting the establishment of adequate and viable drinking water supply and irrigation services accessible to all rural populations in the Digri and Obock regions. The project comprises four components: (A) construction of hydraulic works, (B) geophysical survey, (C) capacity building, (D) water sector study and (E) project management.
