Description | The Project for Water Supply and Sanitation in: i) the Rural Areas of Tadjoura, Arta and Ali Sabieh Districts; ii) the District Centres of Tadjoura and Ali Sabieh regions is part of the Social Development Initiative and is consistent with Bank strategy for the period 2011-2015 for Djibouti. It will provide access to drinking water to 13,500 households, or about 80,000 people (44,000 in rural areas and 36,000 in Tadjoura and Ali Sabieh centers, which represents 10% of the total population of the country) and access to sanitation for 9000 people. It will also provide water for about 42,000 head of cattle. It will enable: i) rural populations to shorten the distance traveled to obtain drinking water; (ii) the creation of 180,000 work days during project implementation and 205 permanent jobs. The cost of the project, excluding taxes and customs duties, is estimated at UA 6,715 million, or about 1,850.418 million Djibouti Francs (FDJ). The project is structured around three components, namely: A) the development of drinking water and sanitation infrastructure; B) institutional support and capacity building; and C) project management. |
