Description | The objective of the Social Development and Public Works Project is to enhance the living standards in Djibouti, through increased access to basic economic and social infrastructure, and services, in addition to employment generation opportunities. Ultimately, the project will contribute to poverty reduction in the city. The project includes three components: 1) Social and economic infrastructure works will improve the physical environment in poor neighborhoods. Mainly, small infrastructure works will improve streets and drainage on secondary and tertiary networks. Construction/rehabilitation of commercial infrastructure, such as markets and public places, will be included, in addition to social infrastructure, i.e., standpipes, health posts, schools, and the like. 2) Support to community development, complements the works of the first component, and will specifically, increase community participation in project implementation; and, social services will be provided to poor communities, through the Social Mobilization Program and the Community Subproject Grants, supporting and financing community development activities. 3) The third component, will strengthen the institutional capacity of stakeholders involved with the implementation of the previous two components, through poverty monitoring and analysis, and, project management and implementation. |
