Description

The Project will implement a two-part Terrestrial Cross-border Backbone between Finland and Sweden. Parts of the routes will utilize DNA's existing infrastructure in the area: - Western route Seinäjoki – Haaparanta will provide capacity and direct path from Haaparanta to Western Finland. - Eastern route will share the Oulu-Haaparanta part of the Western route and provide resilience and redundant route from Kajaani. For the selected routes, permits and tendering processes will be carried out, a detailed route plan will be prepared, and the construction permits applied for. Ultimately, actual construction works of up to 400 km of this backbone project will be carried out. Terrestrial land route will provides a strategic advantage, offering a direct and secure connection between Finland and Sweden. This route will reinforce the resilience and redundancy of the network, ensuring that communication remains uninterrupted even in the event of disruptions in other routes. The new connections will also increase the capacity and secured connections of the region's backbone network and create competition to enable reasonable pricing and high-quality services in the northern border region of the EU.
