DNS4EU and European DNS Shield

The project will deploy a recursive European DNS resolver service infrastructure based on a highly federated and distributed protective DNS ecosystem. This will contribute to strengthening European sovereignty and provide a safe and open alternative DNS resolver for EU citizens, businesses, and public administrations. The project utilizes the complementary know-how and experience of 14 partners from 10 European countries. From a technological point of view, the project combines cloud and on-premise components delivered through publicly available resolvers in the DNS4EU cloud and MNO, Telco and ISP on-premise DNS resolvers. The availability of both cloud and on-premise DNS resolvers shall ensure a significant adoption rate among residential, corporate, and public users in the EU. The solution will be easy to configure by end users and supported by a wide range of applications and operating systems. Furthermore, it will provide focused protection for EU countries and strictly follow EU privacy requirements. Apart from the end user security and UX benefits, the implementation of DNS4EU will rid CSPs of user-generated security issues, IP blacklisting, and other problems connected to DNS resolution and security. In other words, they will not have to take care of DNS maintenance, allowing them to focus solely on developing their networks.
