Description
Description | Doclisboa, one of the most relevant documentary film festivals in Europe, seeks to reflect upon the relations that film can establish with the contemporary world in its complexity, placing filmmaking into dialogue with its history to question the present. The festival imagines reality through new cinematic forms of perception, reflection and action, stimulating the dialogue between films and their audiences. With 22 editions in its history, Doclisboa presents European films in an internationalist context welcoming diverse perspectives and geographies, both through the dialogues it generates and for the international audiences and professionals it engages. Doclisboa combines a strong audience-oriented programme with a carefully thought international industry programme. Its programme is composed of films that are rigorous about their conceptual and formal implications, experimenting with cinema’s artistic, social and political possibilities and refusing to be categorized. Our programmes engage with and mirror the complexity of the world. Every edition, around 200 screenings of both contemporary and heritage films are complemented by several activities directed at audiences, as an opportunity to have a more in-depth experience with films and visiting talent. In addition to that, the festival delivers a year-round programme, from educational screenings to extensions across the country and film distribution initiatives to help films find new audiences. Nebulae, Doclisboa industry space, includes activities such as WIP screenings and sessions, roundtables, project labs and presentations and co-production meetings. Doclisboa will continue to see its work as a tool for a better cohesion among people, a more inclusive European society, and a more democratic, sustainable and diverse film industry. |
