Domestic poultry project

Poultry eggs and broilers have become the most important part of the food basket of the Papua New Guinea population. Domestic poultry farming is a profitable enterprise because of the quick growth of the birds and high feed conversion efficiency. It generates quick revenue for the entrepreneur as the business cycle is only 5-6 weeks. PNG has more than 9 million people and the number is growing every year. The business objective of this project is to become a preferred egg and broiler poultry supplier in the Southern Highlands, Hela, and Enga provinces while providing quality broilers in those places on a sustainable and affordable basis. Eggs and chicken are accepted by almost all communities and are available across the country at reasonable prices. Poultry is the most organized industry in the agriculture and livestock sector in PNG. The poultry industry in PNG generates over K800 million annually and more than 80% of this is produced by out-grower farmers living in villages in rural areas. In addition, the poultry industry in PNG formally employs around 3,000 people, 90% of whom are women. Poultry farming can be a subsidiary as well as the main source of income and employ throughout the year. Also, poultry manure is of high fertilizer value which can be used for increasing the yield of all crops. Namo Poultry, a woman-owned SME business, is behind the development of this new poultry project that will be based in the Kutubu LLG area in Mendi, Southern Highlands Province. The project is open for FDI through a majority stake while it is also open for non-equity loan arrangements. The money will be used for the development of this new project including the purchase of new machinery and equipment. The project further seeks other collaborations like market access (domestic/international buyers), access to affordable and quality production materials and components, and the transfer of technology and know-how expertise from potential business partners.
