Dominican Republic Youth Development Project

The Youth Development Project for the Dominican Republic improves the employability of poor at-risk youth. Component 1 consolidates and expands the Programa Juventud y Empleo to provide increased access to a first work experience for youth at risk. The project pilots training courses and internships designed to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment, particularly in rural areas o f the country where there are few salaried job opportunities. Component 2 builds capacity in the Secretary of Labor and the National Institute for Professional Technical Training to more effectively focus on at-risk youth. It strengthens program coordination, implementation, and evaluation, and may include a follow up study of the national youth survey. Component 3: strengthens and expands the 'Second Chance' education programs Basic Education for Adults and Secondary Education for Adults for school dropouts. It also monitors their results and impact over time.
