Donald Rare Earth & Mineral Sands Mine

approved

A rare earth mining project approved by the Victorian government, located in the Wimmera region of rural Victoria, Australia. The project involves mining rare earth minerals, which are vital for modern devices such as smartphones, electric cars, and wind turbines. Mining is expected to start in 2027 and continue until 2068. The project could impact local farmers, including the Trotter family, who may lose up to 500 hectares of land and face issues such as dust, noise, traffic, and light pollution. The mining company plans to lease or buy land from affected farmers and rehabilitate farmland after mining ends.
