Description | The Donlin Gold mine project in the mid-Kuskokwim River region north of Bethel, Alaska, is nearing completion of its feasibility study and final engineering. The project includes building a surface gold mine powered by natural gas delivered through a 316-mile pipeline from Enstar Natural Gas Co.'s Beluga Pipeline near Beluga, north of Anchorage, to the mine site near Crooked Creek. The mine is expected to require about 11 billion cubic feet of natural gas yearly. The construction cost is expected to be around $10 billion. The project is privately held and owned by Calista Corp. and The Kuskokwim Corp., Alaska Native corporations. |
