Downtown Moncton Accessible Washrooms

The Downtown Moncton Accessible washrooms project consists of constructing permanently accessible public toilets in downtown Moncton. With the advent of COVID-19, a significant number of individuals lost access to available public washroom facilities in the downtown as buildings, businesses, soup kitchens and institutions closed their doors. While a semblance of normalcy will eventually return, policies of granting access to facilities will likely remain constrained. To address the needs of vulnerable individuals, visitors to the downtown and those requiring access after hours, it is proposed to permanently install two toilet facilities in the centre city where access is unimpeded 24-hours a day, 7-days a week in a safe, well-lit, well-travelled and central location for all. The units will be directly connected to the city’s water and sanitary systems, will be of good quality and usable in all four seasons to provide the dignity to those that may not have another available option when such facilities may be needed.
